How to make the most of your strapless bra this summer

Summer is finally here. At last, we can forget the months of hiding ourselves away and pull on our strappy dresses and cut away tops. So, the vital first question – which bra do we wear?

Our top tip this summer: make your strapless bra fit you and your wardrobe in three  easy steps:

Strapless bra hooks are attached to the bra to make it possible to wear as wide strap set, cross over, racer back and halterneck. This is why they usually sit wide at the front of the bra. Most people try their strapless bra on with the straps and find the straps are perfect width but they don’t sit in the correct position and set about looking for a bra that will fit underneath strappy tops.

So how do you get the best fit? Look at the hooks and yes, move them so they match you and your wardrobe perfectly. It’s not hard. New hook points can be sewn in at any point along the bra band, both at the front and back. By moving the hooks, you can sit the strap in exactly the right place for you and all your different tops and dresses.

Follow our 3 step process below to see exactly what we mean and how to do it:

Find where you want the hook to be positioned for you on the bra, directly beneath your clothes straps. Using an old bra strap, pinch a bit to make a loop, stitch it in just where you want it and off you go!

Take the old bra strap and make into loop – matching it to the same size as the existing hook.

And stitch to the bra

Your bra straps will then sit perfectly underneath the strappy dresses and cut away tops. The bra straps can  also be colour co-ordinated or nude/clear straps can be used.

If you’ve already given up on the diet ……. here’s how to look slimmer instantly!

Daily Mail online reported today that 92% of us have already given up on our New Years diets. Well,  we’re here to cheer you up. Remember you can always  look a dress size smaller instantly – just by knowing how to bring the bust and hips into line using, our advice. If you look what we call ‘in proportion’ you instantly look slimmer and toned. It’s when one part of the body looks ‘out of proportion’ that attention is drawn to that larger or smaller area. So don’t despair!

So what does ‘bringing the body into line’ mean?

The key focus areas are bust, waist and hips. The distance between the 3 and the difference in width is actually what creates the curves. All shapes are created according to these 3 points.

Kim Kardashian as a natural hourglass has her bust and hips in line with each other. If you look at the white dress, the side of the bust and the hip will actually be in line with each other and mirror the shape of each other. This is a perfect example of bringing the body into line. The shadow created by the bust ‘hides’ the side of the body and enhances the hourglass shape.

There are some key secrets for body shapes: If you look at the drawings you will see what role the bra needs to play to bring the bust and hips into line with each other, making you look slimmer instantly.

Apple needs shape. The fullest point needs to sit halfway between the elbow and shoulder as this positions the bust in line with the hips and ensures clothes sit less tightly on the midriff, meaning less cling around the tummy area.

Athletic shape needs to keep smooth lines and a sleek shape. Avoid push up bras, you don’t need enhancing but a bra that ‘creates’ the fullest point itself.

Pears need to lift and shape the bust to bring the bust into line with the hips. This instantly makes you look slimmer and younger.

And finally

The hourglass – when the bust and hips are inline, the waist is more defined, the body looks longer and slimmer and neither the bust or hips look large ………. whatever the clothes size.

Start your diet with a bra fit ……. don’t end it!

You only have to switch on the TV, listen to the radio or read a newspaper to recognise the theme of this month – which of course is weightloss. I am certain that for most people, like me, the most common News year Resolution is to lose weight. Too much indulgence over Christmas, plenty of Quality Street, too much cheese sampling and all of a sudden the scales start creeping up. But then we have to think of holidays and all of a sudden, OMG.

Firstly, we all decide we aren’t going to buy anything new until we’ve lost weight. Makes sense of course. Why buy something that may not fit you in a few weeks time. Especially in these pound conscious times. Or does it?

The wrong sized underwear can actually  ‘add’ pounds to your build. The wrong bra size, the wrong knicker size and shape – you instantly look and feel bigger than you are. Also clothes that actually fit you will instantly feel tighter.

Imagine looking in the mirror and magically  feeling a dress size smaller instantly just from wearing the correct underwear. Whilst ditching the pounds invest in 2 good fitting nude T-shirt bras – one to wear and one to wash. Nude sits discreetly under any colour whilst a smooth t-shirt bras goes incognito under any fabric.

The biggest thing to change on the bra with weight loss is likely to be the band size. Small adjustments can be made to reduce the band size to accomodate any weightloss. As it’s a t-shirt bra, the cup should hold its own shape even with a fair amount of weightloss. By the time the bras may be  too big, you’ll be nearing your goal and ready for replacements. Seeing how good you look and instantly looking slimmer are all motivators for a diet. So, get ahead, by choosing a bra size that doesn’t overstate you. Go for the real you, first and foremost.

We’ll help. Call us on 0845 094 2827 or email us at service@brasense.co.uk for more advice or to book a Bra Sense personal fit.
