Bras to wear with the halterneck and backless dress trend

The key to halterneck and backless is hiding the bra. This is made more difficult as backless and halterneck instantly means sideless as well. One great bra is the Dos Nu by Le Mystere. This has detachable straps, so can be worn with fabric straps coordinating with the dress or clear straps, plus it has a low back with the band doing up at the front. The position of the bra at the back can be altered to fit under the scoop of the dress at the back. The cups are a triangular shape meaning that the bra goes unnoticed at the sides. Hey presto – a backless, sideless and halterneck bra all rolled into one!

The Le Mystere Dos Nu is available in sizes 32-38 A-DD in Nude and is £54.00

If you are larger busted, you may find it harder to find a bra that is halterneck, backless and sideless whist still offering support and shape. The best solution is to use an exisiting bra. Bras tend to ‘wear’ in the band so this is a great way to reuse and recycle old bras. The key point is that the bra fits in the cups. To turn an old bra into a useable bra,  cut the shoulder straps at the back and make into a halterneck style by stitching the straps together. You instantly have a backless, halterneck bra which is the right size for you. Key to all these looks isn’t support as such but shape. The dress and tops will generally offer support themselves so the bra is really only needed to add shape.

Le Mystere Carina with multiway straps is available in sizes 32-44 B-G in Nude and is £54.00

Again, like plunge front outfits, be realistic. Although it looks great on the hanger, think what it’ll look like on you. Backless & halterneck styles are great for Small pears, Hourglasses and Athletic builds. These shapes only really need shape rather than support. Cups give this.  If you do need lift, consider a halterneck style which has a higher back, allowing a supportive bra to fit correctly underneath. Choose dress fabrics and styles which again offer support. Carina is a great bra for a fuller bust which can be worn as halterneck style. Available in sizes 32-44 B-G in nude.

5 Minute Bra Tip: How to get the correct cup size

We all think that all cup sizes are the same. Well, they aren’t and it is important to understand the subtleties. It’s amazing how different in actual size they can be. A lot of this is to do with underwire shapes varying between brands affecting cup design and. So, the  first thing to remember is that cup size is just a a guide – nothing more.

1)Always ensure the underwire is fitting around the breast form and the shoulder strap starts at the top of the breast form – this is roughly parallel with the underarm. If it doesn’t, the cup is the wrong size.

2) Check the fullest point of the bra( the point of the bra that is furthest away from the body) is sitting in the correct position – halfway between the elbow and shoulder. If it isn’t, the bra band or cup or both could be the wrong size.

3) The bra cup should look like a shell over the bust as it is merely matching your natural shape. Does it look part of you? If it doesn’t, its likely to be the wrong shape of bra for you, so even in the right size, it won’t fit correctly.

The photo above shows what the correct cup size and cup shape should fit like. The bra being worn is the Le Mystere Dream Tisha – available in sizes 32-44 C-G in Black, Nude, Ivory, White.
